Stewardship is the recognition that everything we have — our time, our talents, our treasure — belongs to God, and that we are entrusted with it for a season.
The biblical foundation
- God owns it all. "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it." (Psalm 24:1)
- Generosity reflects God's heart. "God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son." (John 3:16)
- Cheerful giving. "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." (2 Corinthians 9:7)
- Proportional. Many Christians in the Bible's witness gave a tenth (a tithe). Most Christians today see this as a starting point rather than a ceiling.
Beyond money
Stewardship is also about the offering of our time and talents. Every member has gifts to bring — in the worship band, in welcoming, in teaching children, in pastoring the elderly, in administration. See our Volunteer Opportunities page.
