Our Mission

Our calling and purpose as Harlesden Baptist Church

Harlesden Baptist Church exists to proclaim the message of Jesus Christ, to disciple believers, and to serve the community God has placed us in.

What we believe

We are an evangelical Baptist church, part of the wider family of the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the London Baptist Association. We hold to the historic Christian faith expressed in the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds, honouring them as faithful historic summaries of key Christian truths, especially concerning the Trinity and the deity of Christ. As Baptists, however, we hold that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments are the supreme and final authority for faith and practice, and that every creed must be tested by Scripture. We also affirm that the Lord Jesus Christ is the only Head of the Church, and that baptism is for believers by full immersion. Learn more about baptism at HBC →

Why we are here

Our calling is summed up in the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ:

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." — Matthew 28:19-20

Our four commitments

Our place

We have stood on Acton Lane in Harlesden since 1890. The borough of Brent is one of the most culturally diverse in the United Kingdom, and our congregation reflects that diversity. We celebrate this and seek to live out the truth that "there is neither Jew nor Gentile… for you are all one in Christ Jesus" (Galatians 3:28).
