Jesus answers with a question
Jesus did not give him the answer straight away. Instead, He asked the man a question back.
"What is written in the law?" Jesus said. "How do you read it?"
In other words: "You know the answer already. What do you think?"
Jesus often does this. He helps us THINK rather than just telling us what to do.
